SUNK LOTO + TESTEAGLES @ SANDS TAVERN, MAROOCHYDORE
June 10 2000

The day started off with the instore signing at HMV with the sunk boys turning up half an hour late because of traffic. The testeagles were right into the signing but as i found out later when talking to the sunk lads they dont really like signings which could be why there autograph looked completely different each time they wrote it. But once at the venue it was very clear that alot of the people around didnt even know who the bands were. I spent some time talking to Sean and Jason about alot of things and they seemed disinterested with the gig that night but once they hit the stage it all changed. The night started with R F Brahn who showed alot of promise with there funk and country influenced metal. It was one of the most personal shows i have ever seen sunk loto do mainly because the stage was no bigger then a drum riser. But Jasons voice was sounding very good for a band thats playing almost every night and the new songs fit right in with the ep tracks. The track list is as follows:
LIFT
BIG PICTURE LIES
HUMAN ASHTRAY
PORCELAIN BUDDAH
SUNKEN EYES
SHIVER
NEW NEW NEW
VINEGAR STROKE
BLUMPY
SUBBY
The new songs were very experamental with strange sounds and unique arrangements. Despite Sean having a little technichal trouble the boys were tighter then ever and look to take over the states and canada when they tour there later in the year.

Now onto the Testeagles. I was lucky enough to sit at the bar where Matty was stringing his guitar before the gig and he was very cool and gave out some much deserved props to triple j for helping lesser known bands. Also its good to see the Testeagles not selling out with Matty refusing Guitar deals so he can use guitars he actually likes. Now onto there set, These guys improve each time i see them and tonight was no exception pulling off a very long set playing all of the album and some old favourites. These are the songs they played but not in this order:
STOMP
HAMMERDRILL
TURN THAT SHIT UP
CLONE
JUST ANOTHER POP SONG
NUA YAU YAU NA KARI KUAI
REBEL
UNDERDOG
THE POWER
AGENT 99
LIKE NO OTHER
NON-COMPREHENDUS
TE'S IN STYLE
DREAM IS YOUR OWN TIME
They covered the early 90's rap song The power which went over really well and the crowd was somewhat rough but still showed the bands that the sunny coast does rock. Overall this gig was really good and is what the Sunny Coast needed. Next time the security might wanna check females ID's as there was too many 15 and 16 year old grrls there but other than that i think the bands were very surprised with what was an appreciative crowd and they showed that they are Australias best bands.
